Are you familiar with the A2L Mandate for HVAC refrigerant? Effective, January 1, 2025, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires new HVAC equipment to use A2L classified refrigerants. A2L refrigerants have a lower level of flammability than its predecessors. Current refrigerants, R22 (Freon) and R410A (Puron) are not A2L refrigerants. Unlike the phase out of R22 refrigerant, this new mandate may require a full HVAC replacement if parts/refrigerant are not available for a R22 or R410A system. This requirement will impact buyers, sellers, and consumers. Real Estate Agents need to be prepared for this mandate. At the end of this class agents will be able to: Differentiate between three types of common residential HVAC systems and their components. Identify the type of system and refrigerant from the manufacturer’s label. Explain the A2L Mandate to their buyers and sellers.
